AF: Which Italian city do you feel most comfortable in?DRT: Torino or Ferrara.<\/p>\n\n
AF: And what about worldwide?DRT: Berlin.<\/p>\n\n
AF: Order or chaos. What is the curator\u2019s desk like?DRT: My desk is extremely tidy, but my drawers are a total mess.<\/p>\n\n
AF: Let\u2019s talk about your house and how it mirrors your tastes.DRT: I live in a house from the early Seventies, built by an architect with brutalist inclinations. It\u2019s austere, essential. A few design details create a balance that reflects who Iam.<\/p>\n\n
AF: Do you miss something about the first period where you started to work in this field?DRT: It was a selected field, accessible only to a few people. Today is more open, of course. But not always in a real way. Younger people struggle to turn talent into aprofession.<\/p>\n\n
AF: What do you think about \u201cpolitically correct\u201d in the cultural field?DRT: Sometimes it\u2019s necessary. It depends on the context.<\/p>\n\n
AF: Have you ever exercised censorship?DRT: No, but according to what Pasolini used to say I believe in self-censorship, an act of duty for all of us.<\/p>\n\n
AF: In which way curators can remain honest?DRT: Trying to. Remain loyal to what you believe in, but also open to contamination, not to compromises.<\/p>\n\n
AF: At different times, you have lived abroad. Did it help you or did it have a negative impact on your career?DRT: It helped me to stimulate my curiosity.<\/p>\n\n
AF: Do you have a lot of friends among colleagues and artists?DRT: Yes, I have many of them, besides my tennis partners.<\/p>\n\n
AF: You wrote about Sodoma, Caravaggio, Carol Rama, Rothko. Do you think you are as tormented as the people you had frequently talk about?DRT: Not at all. I think I\u2019m sensitive and sometimes a bit shy, but I don\u2019t like shutting myself off, I prefer being with the people I love.<\/p>\n\n
AF: The next edition of Esposizione Triennale of Rome is focused on the theme \u201cThe future has an ancient heart\u201d. Which will be your contribution to the showcase and the chosen themes?DRT: I really appreciated the theme that Stefania (Pieralice) had chosen, and I tried to define the borders of the nearest past through an interpretation of the most recent aesthetics, born in the early web era, whose languages are today seen in a nostalgic way.<\/p>\n\n
AF: What do you expect from the future?DRT: I have a lot of dreams about my private life, but those are just for myself\u2026 on the other hand, workwise, I would like to contribute to a more human art system, less monopolistic A big independent cultural space.<\/p>\n\n
AF: \u2060In the end, what is the audience? And what is art? Give me your personal definition.DRT: The audience is the reason why we do what we do, artists can\u2019t isolate themselves and shut themselves off but they need to dialogue with society, with the present.
